News & Events at Onchan Library - 09/10/2009Skandia Reading Quest Prize Winners
Over 200 children of all ages took part in this year's Skandia Reading Quest at Onchan Library over the summer.Children are never too young to enjoy reading, so pre-school children had their very own Skandia Star Readers event this year, with a prize draw for the finishers. Prizes were awarded to Star Readers Alfie & Charlie Swales, age 3 & 4, and twins Caitlin and James McKeown age 4. There were lots of activities to join in throughout the summer as part of the event, and a prize was awarded to Amy Mackie age 7, who coloured the best picture as part of her quest. Children joining the Skandia Reading Quest completed a task each time they read 2 books, and collected rewards along the way, with a golden dragon medal when they completed their quest. Royal Skandia of Onchan provided everything for the quest, so the event was free for children to take part in. Reluctant readers rose to the challenge, and confident readers went Beyond the Quest into the realms of space, thanks to Howard Parkin and The IOM Astronomical Society. Howard has arranged an exciting trip to the society's observatory at Foxdale for prize draw winners Jonathan Ireland age 8, Orry Swift age 10, and Ashley Kermode age 12. Congratulations to all the children taking part, and really enjoying their books and activities this summer. The Skandia Reading Quest is part of a national 'Quest Seekers' event taking place in libraries throughout Britain, and organised by The Reading Agency. http://www.questseekers.org.uk/ |
