The scheme started with library assistant Cath Cringle reading passages from three books she had selected. The bank's Onchan branch customer adviser Mark Steven officially launched the challenge.More than 50 youngsters had signed up within two days and many more did so in the days that followed. Each child is given a special pack telling them how to participate. The theme is "The Reading Maze" and in one game, youngsters have to find characters from their packs hidden around the library in Main Road. Those taking part will receive medals, certificates and door hangers from the bank depending on how many books they read by the September 6th deadline. Librarian Pam Hand said "As well as giving children a love of reading, it helps us with feedback about the books". Last year 336 children worked their way through 4,736 books.
